5 Best Full-Size Keyboards for Bookkeepers

5 Best Full-Size Keyboards for Bookkeepers

A good keyboard is essential for bookkeepers because it’s our primary tool. Bookkeepers spend a lot of time typing, so a proper keyboard with a comfortable and ergonomic design can help prevent repetitive strain injuries and improve productivity. They can help reduce errors and ensure accurate data entry. Overall, the best keyboards for bookkeepers can improve a bookkeeper’s efficiency and help them perform their job with ease and accuracy.

Unlike other professions, we can’t get away with a tiny laptop keyboard for most of our work. There’s nothing more frustrating than filling up a spreadsheet with numbers while using the number row at the top of our laptops. No, bookkeepers need a full-size keyboard with a proper numpad.

If you want to upgrade your equipment, a nice keyboard is a great place to start. There are a lot of choices out there. Many people prefer a low-profile keyboard that feels similar to their laptops. Others prefer the tactile “clicky” mechanical keyboards. Whichever you prefer, I have some great options for you.

5 Best Full-Size Keyboards for Bookkeepers

1. Logitech MX Keys

Best choice for most bookkeepers.

If you don’t need a mechanical keyboard (more on those below), this is an easy choice. Over the years, I have owned quite a few Logitech keyboards, and I don’t think I’ve owned one I didn’t like. This one is my favourite non-mechanical keyboard. It’s really comfortable to type on for long data entry sessions. Another great feature is the backlighting, which is nice when working those late nights without it feeling like an RGB toy.

What makes this one of the best keyboards for bookkeepers?

  • Smart illumination that automatically turns on and off when hands approach or move away from the keyboard
  • Easy switching between 3 devices with support for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android
  • Enhanced productivity with customizable function keys and app-specific profiles, allowing quick access to frequently used commands and shortcuts
  • Long battery life of up to 10 days with a single charge, and fast charging through USB-C cable

2. Keychron K10 Pro

Best choice for bookkeepers who want a mechanical keyboard.

If you want to treat yourself to a full-size mechanical keyboard, but don’t want to spend a fortune, Keychron makes some amazing keyboards. I like the layout of the K10 Pro. Some mechanical keyboards have a really cramped layout that doesn’t provide the room you need to type away at that numpad all day. The K10 Pro feels great, and is comfortable to use all day. Keychron is also one of the few companies that is Mac-friendly. It comes with Control, Option, Command keys by default. Don’t worry Windows users. They come with Windows keys in the box that you can easy swap out.

What makes this one of the best keyboards for bookkeepers?

  • The Keychron K10 Pro is a 104 keys RGB backlight aluminum frame hot-swappable Bluetooth mechanical keyboard made for Mac and Windows
  • Can be connected via Bluetooth or wired via a USB-C cable
  • Connects to up to 3 devices
  • Hot-swappable switches if you want to customize it further. The one I link to here comes with either Brown or Red switches
  • The K10 can last up to 240 hours (with backlight off) with a 4000 mAh big battery, which is one of the biggest in mechanical keyboards

3. Apple Magic Keyboard

Best choice for bookkeepers who want an Apple keyboard.

If you love your MacBook Air/Pro, but all you want is a full-size keyboard, Apple has you covered. Some of you will have used an Apple external keyboard if you ever owned an iMac. What you may not have known is that they also sell a full-size version with a numpad. And, if you like your F-keys, this one goes all the way up to F19 which gives you 7 more function keys than a typical MacBook Pro keyboard. This one works with all Macs, but if you have a Mac with an M1 or M2 processor, you can opt for the newer version which also has built-in Touch ID.

What makes this one of the best keyboards for bookkeepers?

  • Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad connects wirelessly to your Mac, iPad, or iPhone via Bluetooth
  • Delivers a remarkably comfortable and precise typing experience
  • Its extended layout features document navigation controls for quick scrolling and full-size arrow keys. Did I mention F1-F19?
  • The incredibly long-lasting internal battery will power your keyboard for about a month or more between charges
  • Charges via Lightning cable (included)

4. Logitech K350

Best choice for bookkeepers who want an affordable, ergonomic keyboard.

Not all of us want or need to spend over $100 on a new keyboard. There are a lot of cheap keyboards on the market, so I’d suggest getting a great keyboard that just happens to be affordable. Logitech is (once again) a great choice. The K350 has that ergonomic “wave” keyboard layout that has been around for a long time. With the curved layout and the built-in palm rest, you can comfortably type for hours.

What makes this one of the best keyboards for bookkeepers?

  • The ergonomic wave-shaped keyboard—with a cushioned palm rest, Constant Curve keys, and a familiar layout—puts you ahead of the comfort curve without the learning curve
  • The extended battery life of up to three years practically eliminates the need to replace batteries
  • Programmable keys and dedicated media keys
  • And the $40 price tag doesn’t hurt, either

5. Keychron K5 SE

Best choice for bookkeepers who want a low-profile mechanical keyboard.

I probably could have just listed off Keychron’s full lineup. Seriously, they make a really solid mechanical keyboard, and sell it for much less than others in the space. If I had to pick a second favourite layout, it would be the K5. This is a great combination of a low-profile keyboard with all the benefits of a mechanical keyboard. The layout also takes up less space on your desk than a standard full-size keyboard would.

What makes this one of the best keyboards for bookkeepers?

  • It’s a 104 key ultra-slim hot-swappable Bluetooth mechanical keyboard
  • Can be connected via Bluetooth or wired via a USB-C cable
  • Connects to up to 3 devices
  • Hot-swappable switches if you want to customize it further. The one I link to here comes with 4 options. (Red, Blue, Banana, or Mint)
  • White LED backlit

My recommendation:

No matter what you choose, my main recommendation is to make sure you have tools that allow you to do your best work. Being a bookkeeper is hard work. Don’t make it harder on yourself by spending hours on an uncomfortable keyboard that doesn’t have the features you need.

If I had to pick one that would be the best choice for most bookkeepers, I’d say go with the Logitech MX Keys. If you really like the idea of a mechanical keyboard or have fond memories of those old ’80s and 90’s era IBM keyboards, go with the Keychron K10 Pro. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you if you end up down a path to building your own custom keyboard.

Now that you’ve upgraded your keyboard, why not move on to a new Bluetooth mouse.
